Neck Pain & Headaches
Do you suffer from neck pain and/or headaches? There can be many different causes for this. Most headaches can be irritating and debilitating and mostly an indication that the muscles of the body are awry rather than a sign of a serious problem. However, if you do experience persistent and severe headaches I suggest you seek urgent medical attention.
Muscles in the body work together to both support you and to allow optimal movement. Neck muscles are all too often an area in the body where muscles get overworked leading to fatigue, muscle tightness and consequently a restriction of normal motion. This muscle tension in the neck is a common cause of headaches and pain. Neck tension and headaches can be caused by:
increased forward head carriage when working on a computer or watching TV. When the head moves too far forward, it results in immense pressure on the spinal nerves and muscles. With increased pressure on the nerves, especially in the upper part of the neck, symptoms like headaches occur.
holding a child
painting the ceiling
spending too much time looking down on your phone
and the list goes on…..
By supporting the neck muscles to be at a normal state of tension through osteopathic treatment may support improvement of headaches. However, since osteopathy is a holistic modality due consideration will be given to the whole body, ie: other areas of the body that are contributing to neck pain and headaches.
